Pizza Dough

2020-05-12

Making Pizza is not as hard as the Pizza Guy down the street would like you to believe. It is however a bit more complicated than making pancakes so I’d start with breakfast foods if you’re not the cooking type.

Things you’ll need:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/3 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teapspoons dry yeast from jar)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil leaves (optional)
  • 2 Tablespoons of oil (Vegetable or olive)
  • 3/4 Cup of warm water
  • Toppings (Sauce, Shredded Cheese, whatever else you like..)

Directions

I make my dough in a bread machine, but you can hand kneed this recipe if you don’t have one. First put the warm water and sugar into the mixing bowl, stir it. Next sprinkle the yeast on top of the warm water and wait 5 minutes. The yeast should be foamy after 5 minutes.

Pour the rest of the ingredients into the bowl and mix. This is where I put my bread machine to work on the pizza dough setting. If you do this by hand you’re going to need to place the dough ball in a warm oven (lowest temperature for a few minutes then turn it off and put in the dough, you’re looking for it to double in size. Punch it down and then let it rise again).

When the dough comes out you can lightly flour a surface and press the dough into a pizza pan or cookie sheet. Add sauce, shredded cheese and toppings to suit your tastes. Place pizza in the preheated oven at 475 degrees for about 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
